Our vision is for Welsh seas to be clean, healthy, safe, productive, and rich in biodiversity.

We are marine and coastal partners from across government, industry, conservation, and communities who support sustainable development actions for our coasts and seas. In Wales, we have many existing approaches, people and projects seeking to support marine ecosystems and the benefits we receive from them. However, we need to do more, and we need to do it faster, using our resources effectively. Wales Coasts and Seas Partnership (CaSP Cymru) work together, as partners, stakeholders, and communities, to deliver our three themes through a programme of work, to underpin our vision and ambitions for resilient coasts and seas.

The importance of Welsh seas

Our coasts and seas are central to life in Wales, shaping our well-being, culture, language, and fishing heritage.

The sea around Wales doubles the size of the country.

69% of the sea and coastline is designated for the diverse habitats and marine life that inspire and sustain us.

Almost 60% of the Welsh population live within 3 miles of the sea.

Welsh seas provide vital benefits, including food, renewable energy, carbon storage, tourism and health and well-being. However, these ecosystems face growing pressure from climate change, pollution, and increased use of natural resources. Managing our seas responsibly is essential to address the climate and nature emergencies while protecting biodiversity and coastal communities.

CaSP Cymru have a developed a shared narrative which explains what we do.
